I don't know wether it's just me or is New Delhi plainly a composition of food! Somehow - the food brands have been around for ages and they keep up with times to serve generations.. And end up in my list of brand revamps in India... Oh well!
Birthday parties, kitties, family outings, ice creams.. Niruals was the place our parents would take us for good grades, being nice, helping in the house or just being polite - a reward in a way. Later it became a hot spot for friends to hang out with or for dates.. Now we take our kids there.. it's been there forever!
A hot Chocolate Fudge that started at "icre-cream prices" now costs 10 times it's price - but is still the favorite amongst all delhi-ites.. and no other ice cream - whether Baskins or Kwality or Gelatto can beat the taste of an original HFC!
The nirula family came to Delhi in the 1920s. A small new venture that introduced some of the finest most newest cuisines and specialities in India. I've driven to connaught place specially for the super cheap (not anymore) salad bar with a great ambience and awesome service! The nirulas potpourri was one if it's kind - always packed and always maintained it's service too.
Nirulas never changed their branding either - a part of every OLD business feels that their value lies in their original logo - whereas i beg to differ.. I feel that their value in in their product and in their service and if they revamp they can only attract the new generation and new customers from this time as opposed to loosing the old ones.. The old ones are already addicted - if you've done good.. but somehow the branding NEVER changes!
Well ateast the look and the feel changes.. The adverts and menus change!.. The interiors look fresher and less cluttered and play of colors is very nice too!
This ad campaign was great - photographed by one of my favorite food photographers in Delhi - Sirish Sen and Designed by Shivjeet Kullar's Kfactor - the Ad campaign was a very new take on - well, junk food! THey made it look healthy :-) To top that the witty use of things to promote the Nirulas burgers was very interesting too!
What i like the most is the typically desi slogans for the typically desi customer - DIRECT HIT!
In addition to their great food and service they have a bakery section as well - Custom made cakes and cookies with jelly bites - which were my favorite thing in the whole world when i was little! They are not extravagant - they are very basic - but good! You can buy all sorts of things at Nirulas bakery shop - like the famous Hot Chocolate Fudge syrup, jams and cooking sauces. While the packaging really blows - the products are 5 on 5!!
Recently Nirulas got taken over by some Asian company - Hopefully they will make a change!
Though most people seem to feel or atleast say that Nirulas is not the same in its food anymore, i still enjoy my afternoons with friends and enjoy the food just as much as i always did!
